Page Boy Maternity & The Frankfurt Sisters of Dallas

Dallas, Texas – The Dallas Jewish Historical Society will present the Andres Family Lecture Series with guest speaker, Dr. Kay Goldman, on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 7:15 p.m., in the Mankoff Center at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center, 7900 Northaven Road, Dallas TX.

As part of the continuing Andres Family Lecture Series, Dr. Goldman will discuss her forthcoming book, Dressing Modern Maternity:  The Frankfurt Sisters of Dallas and the Page Boy Label.  Dr. Goldman provides an insightful look not only at the entrepreneurial Frankfurt Sisters but also the development and growth beginning in 1938 of a new industry within the fashion world. The rise of well-designed maternity fashions under the talented hands of Elsie Frankfurt Pollock, Edna Frankfurt Ravkind, and Louise Frankfurt (“Tootsie”) Gartner also provides a lesson on how changing business practices and relational dynamics in family-held companies can be forces for success or failure.

Dr. Kay Goldman received her Ph.D. in History from Texas A & M University in 2003 and has presented numerous papers on Southern Jewish and Texas History.  A former Co-Coordinator and Founder of the Graduate Teaching Academy at Texas A&M, Dr. Goldman currently serves as Program Coordinator of the Graduate Advising Office, Biology Department.  Her previous book, With a Doll in One Pocket and a Pistol in the Other: Rebecca Mayer 1952, was published in 2010. Dr. Goldman’s newest book, Dressing Modern Maternity: The Frankfurt Sisters of Dallas and the Page Boy Label will be released by Texas Tech University Press in March 2013.

One of the displays in the Honoring Our Veterans exhibit

Our current exhibit is “Honoring Our Veterans”.
It includes photographs, documents and artifacts providing a glimpse into the military lives of our Jewish men and women from all branches of the armed forces. The exhibit features men and women serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corp. Medical Corp. and Chaplain. They served during WWI, WWII, and Iraq. The collection includes photos of the men and women in uniform, medals, promotion certificates, discharge certificates, military support event souvenirs and programs.

Also included is the marriage certificate between a U.S soldier and a British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service member (female branch). There is an original Army uniform jacket and infantry rifle along with recruitment material and a variety of mementos.
